Spanish Playtime

So over the weekend our neighbors brought over a little gift for you Emily. They just returned from a mission trip to Bolivia where they were working at a school. They brought back some little hand knit finger puppets of animals. With these little puppets they printed up a nice little card with the English and Spanish words for each animal. This then made daddy kick into the little Spanish that he know and teach you some colors as well. Here is what we are learning so far

English Spanish
orange anaranjado
(mommies favorite Spanish word)

Well that is the end of the Spanish lesson for now… until daddy learns some more.

Love You Emily,
Daddy

In Loving Memory: Ryan Daniel Davis

I just want to take a few moments to share my heartfelt sympathy for the Davis family on the loss of Ryan Daniel Davis. Ryan was born and went home to be with his Savior on May 17, 2005. I just pray that the Lord will be with Kevin and Aline as well as the whole Davis family now to bring them comfort in this time of great loss. I worked with Kevin when he was at Sun and we developed a great friendship that has continued to grow even after I moved half way across the country.

The follwoing is the text from Kevin’s blog entry:

A Baby is born…

Hi everyone-

Ryan Daniel Davis was born as a stillborn to my wife and I on Tuesday May 17, 2005 at 5:07pm. He weighed 7lbs, 9.2oz, measured 20 inches long. Everything about Ryan is absolutely perfect in every way with one exception - he never took a breath. We spent 6 hours with our son - finding out that he has my wife’s nose and chin, my lips, my dark hair - brown with a hint of red, my hands - long fingers and lines that were exactly the same, my wife’s feet - long second toe and all.

Ryan was baptized by Father Norman of St. Mark’s Church that night. And now Ryan is with God. Brittiany will watch over Ryan, he will play with Ben and Christopher, Granddaddy Sangrey will teach him bocci, Grandfather Davis will make sure his hair is trimmed, Grandmother and Grandfather Austin will make sure he knows how to fish and cook the meal. We are at peace knowing that Ryan is now with God.

But Jesus called them unto Him, and said, ‘Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them, for of such is the kingdom of God.’
Luke 16:18

We have our pictures of Ryan, we have a blanket that smells like a baby boy. We have a bear which we named King to help us remember to hug and hold our baby.

I must say one more thing - I am so proud of my wife! She was in labor for 12 hours and laboring (pushing) for 3 hours. She was simply awesome. And I love her so much - words can not even begin to explain.

And now we need to plan a funeral. We know that he will be buried in town so Ryan will be close to us - within walking distance. We know that the funeral will be on the 28th of May.

The entire Lacher Family extend our heartfelt sympathy and prayers for Kevin, Aline, and Ryan. We are all praying for your strength and healing and are looking forward to the day that we can meet Ryan in heaven.

Love,
Dan, Erin, and Emily

Nights and days

Well the last few days have been sorta upside down and sideways. You little one have been in the mood to only sleep while you are being held and crying (some say screaming) when you are not sleeping. This has been trying on both mommy and myself. Last night went better and you spelt for a few hours at a stretch by yourself and a few stretches being held. Your mommy and I know that you are being well fed are being taken care of so we just try to comfort you as best we can and if you need to just cry then we shall let you. I have to say the hardest part is being at work and hearing you cry and knowing that mommy is tired and needs a break… lunch time comes soon enough and you even hung out with me yesterday during a conference call so that mommy could get a nap in.

We love you Emily.

One Month

Where has the first month gone? I have heard people tell you that they grow up so fast and I always listened to them but now I understand what they are talking about. It seems like just yesterday that Erin and I woke up in the hospital and started the day that you were born. Seems like just yesterday that they handed you to me for the first time. A lot has happened in this first month and your are grow and changing each day. I know that you can’t be a baby forever so this just reenforces the point that we need to make sure that we enjoy every minute now.

You have started to not to the ‘birdie’ face anymore and we can’t seem to get a good picture of it. It is this little face that you make when you are ready to eat, you sort stick out your top lip in the form of a little birdie beak. It is so cute but it quickly followed by the sounds of you telling us you are ready to eat. We shall just have to burn the image into our minds since we can’t capture the look on film.

Right now you are hanging out in the office in your bouncy chair and you have hiccups. Mommy is getting ready and you just wanted to be in here instead of just hanging out in the cradle or crib… and I love having you in here with me.

We are headed out tomorrow to get your pictures taken to send off your beautiful face to all of the family. Smile pretty for the camera.

Happy One Month Birthday Emily.

Love,
Daddy

Strolling for Coffee

A couple of days ago it was a very nice day and now it looks like the trend is going to continue. After a morning of some yard work and various things around the house we decided it was time for a family stroll and we figured that a great destination would be Coffee Chaos. So after we got you strapped into the car seat and then attached that to the stroller we headed out. Not knowing how well this was going to go we left Nuba at home this time.

Strolling down the sidewalks the sun was warm while the breeze still had a little chill to it, but you were bundled up with the visors to keep the wind out. After arriving at Coffee Chaos you and I pulled up at a table outside while mommy went in to place our order. You started to get a little fussy so I gave you a quick cuddle and you fell asleep again so we tucked you back in. It was nice to be able to sit outside with mommy and enjoy the sun and each others company. After a few minutes you started to get really fussy… it was time for a feeding again so we strapped you back in and headed back home. It was a great day and we all had a great time.

We love you Emily. You are growing up so fast and it is so fun to watch.

Random Updates

Well Emily it looks like it has been a while since I have written anything down here for you. Updates that have happened since I last wrote (skipping the java entry).

  • Grandma Sue headed home and your mommy and I are learning the changed routine with her not here
  • You are sleeping great one night, and then not the next… that is sorta frustrating for us to grasp and figure out what if anything is making those change
  • The day care provider that we had you signed up with is closing on very short notice so we are back in the hunt for a provider again
  • The day care provider that we really wanted to get you into does not have any opening right now for the timeframe that we are seeking
  • This weekend is mothers day and I have not taken you out yet so that you can do your shopping for mommy
  • Next week you turn one month old, holy time has flown by and you are changing right before our eyes it seems like
  • Mommy thinks that you are starting to look like me instead of her
  • Yesterday you took your first stroll with mommy down to the Witt’s to see Heather and the the boys

That is a quick catch up of the things that I can remember. I thought that I would find myself writing you entries during the late night / early morning feedings but instead I get up with you and mommy initially, crawl back into bed and wait for mommy to call, help change your diaper and change you in between sides, then crawl back into bed. So with that routine happening I don’t really come down to the office and start writing about random stuff at 2 o’clock in the morning.

That about sums up what is going on right now. You are sleeping and we are trying to find a day care.

We Love you so much Emily.

God Bless,
Daddy

Hello World… Java style

Someone is all ready trying to program…

class HelloWorld {
public static void main(String[] args) {
System.out.println(”Hello World!”);
}
}

My little girl is all ready trying to take my job away. A special thanks to Stacie for the Java tshirt. Stacie had this from back in the day and I can’t seem to find any place to get one with the new logo.

Okay Emily this post is only because your daddy is a computer geek and really wanted to see you in the Java shirt that Stacie sent you. I promise to not make you wear it everyday.
