International Adoption Simplification Act

Today, President Obama signed in to law the International Adoption Simplification Act.  There are several provisions in this bill, but one in particular is of importance to us.  This law puts into effect the same vaccination exemption that was part of international adoption prior to the Hague treaty.  In layman’s terms, this means that Julia will not have to be subjected to 6-8 shots IN ONE DAY prior to coming to the US – we will be able to waive the shots in country with the promise that we will do them in the US.  With all that Julia (and countless other children) go through in the first weeks they are united with families, this is such a huge blessing to be able to defer shots until you are home rather than having to do so many in one day during a time that is already traumatic.  Hooray!  The only thing that would be better than this right now would be receiving our LOA.  Tomorrow marks 6 weeks of waiting…
