One Week Home

One week ago yesterday we arrived home. It is hard to believe. It seems like so long ago that we were on that extremely long flight; but it also doesn’t seem possible we have been here a week, I guess the days blend together.

We continue to take steps both forward and back. Julia’s skin is clearing up nicely with the help of Zyrtec and staying calm. Even when she gets riled up, her skin doesn’t seem to be as affected. It shows just how stressful the initial transition was for her. She still has bad patches at her temples, the back of her neck, and her hands and wrists – all the places she scratches to soothe. As a mommy, this is difficult to watch, but also difficult to try to stop as it does bring her comfort and she gets SO mad when you try to divert her from it. When I put her to bed tonight, I experienced both of these. Praying she gets a good night’s sleep and is able to do most of it in her crib. She slept there last night uninterrupted from 7:15 until 11:30, the longest stretch since we’ve been home. I was able to get her back down until 1:00 and then Dan was in the chair with her after that.

Today was a pretty good day of playing. She seems to like playing on her back – guessing she spent time in her crib doing this. She also is able to maneuver all around the room just on her back with her legs. It is interesting to watch and surely a learned behavior from her orphanage time. We have learned that she LOVES peas and yogurt (any flavor). She also has been drinking some juice out of a sippy cup – our friends brought us the Motts for Tots when they brought a meal the other night and since it comes straight out of a bottle she doesn’t seem to realize that it is prediluted!

Friday was a very dark day for me. Emotions got the best of me and it was not pretty. At all. Thankfully Dan was here to support me. I am so thankful that God’s mercies are new every morning (Lam. 3). I know that I need to draw closer to the Lord for strength. Last night after getting Julia back down, I was wide awake. I prayed and felt God leading me to read Psalm 139. I asked Dan for his phone so I could use the Bible app. I absolutely love that Psalm and it spoke volumes to me and where I was/am. After I read that, I fell asleep easily and peacefully. God is great.

I am headed back upstairs to spend a little time with Dan. Most of the day was in divide and conquer mode, so it will be good to just sit down and chat for a few minutes. I know new pictures are long overdue. Tomorrow I will have Dan help me get pictures up as I snapped a bunch today while Julia was playing.

Holy cow, sounds like you guys are really, really tired but hanging in there! Let me know if there is anything I can do, I am at the airport today heading to Brazil, but will be back this weekend. I am an awesome soup maker, so if you want a couple of batches of soup for quick dinners let me know!
