Sunday Evening

Julia took a long nap this afternoon, which is good. But now she is having a bit of trouble going to bed. I put her to bed and was staying by her side. She was self-soothing quite a bit, scratching at her head and elbows (she has short sleeve jammies on tonight which she is [...]

Sunday Morning

We had originally planned to go to church here in Guangzhou but Julia is having a hard time so we planned some touring this morning instead. Helen (our guide) took us to the Folk Art Museum to see traditional artwork and furniture. There is silk embroidery art here framed like paintings, and they are so [...]

Ups & Downs in Guangzhou

While in Guangzhou, we are staying on Shamian Island. It is very peaceful here, as honking car horns are not allowed here. A stark difference to our last hotel in downtown Shanghai! It is almost too quiet. We keep music on at night because Julia is accustomed to some noise, and I think we have [...]

Things We’ve Learned About Julia

We have been on a Julia crash course since Monday. Here is a summary of what we know (or think we know) so far. I apologize if some of this repeats from other posts. I don’t remember which things I have mentioned and I am too tired to go back and search through. –SHE CAN [...]

Quick Catch Up

I’m going to do two posts tonight to make up for being a little bit delinquent in the blog department. This one will be filled with random things – like the fact that we are now in Guangzhou! Julia did ok for her first flight. She was giggling and alert for about an hour. Too [...]

Morning

Good morning. Thank you for your encouragement, it is so helpful. We are grateful for all of you. Julia is still sleeping. Last night was the first night that she has awakened with crying in the night. A weird noise was coming from our bathroom so I think that woke her up (the water pipes [...]

Filling the Silence

Sorry for being silent – it has been anything but here. We have been busy with sightseeing today – Old Shanghai, a cruise to look at the skyline on the Huangpu River, and a walk through the Bund area. Last night and today have been filled with lots of crying. It could be grieving, it [...]

It’s Official!

This morning Julia finally woke up around 7. She was stirring in her crib so I went over and she gave me a little smile. I picked her up before she changed her mind! Then Dan got a bottle ready and I started feeding her. During that time we also got to Skype with the [...]

Quick Morning Post

It is about 6:45 a.m.  We put Julia to bed last night at 7:30 and she went right to sleep, slept all night, and is STILL sleeping!  Hoping that waking up isn’t too scary for her.  We will get her a bottle when she wakes up and then head down to breakfast before our civil [...]

Together at Last

Monday afternoon – Today has been totally amazing so far.  Let me start with how it is right now…Julia is sitting in a chair with toys in each hand, cooing to us.  And, we got our first smiles when we figured out her belly is ticklish!  Ever since then, she is smiling and talking with [...]
