Crafty Mama

You may or may not have noticed that the blog posts are categorized by topic. That way, if you wanted to go back and read everything related to Julia, for example, the posts are easier to find if you just search by category.

Historically (way back in 2004) Dan was the family blogger. In fact, if you go back that far you will see that the blog really was started as a way for him to journal for Emily, even before she was born. Then we started using it to share pics and updates with family and friends. Somewhere along the line (mainly during the adoption journey) as I started reading more and more blogs, and I was the one obsessing over the paperwork, I started doing more of the blogging. And now, I guess I am the primary blogger (although I still will let Dan post the monthly slew of pics). So in honor of me being the PB (primary blogger) I have created a new category today: Crafty Mama. From time to time I create a scrapbook page, birthday card, or other such thing that I think is cute and want to share with everyone, so now I have a place to do it!

Last week I was forced to make birthday party invitations for Emily’s party this weekend as the party store had all the Barbie swag but not the matching invites. And you know, I am pretty bored these days. (That’s sarcasm, people.) So, with the help of my loving husband and my new Sure Cuts a Lot software for my Cricut from said husband (awesome Christmas present!), I got to work. Found some Barbie SVG files online. Used my trusty Close to My Heart Liquid Glass (which I find SO much easier than messing with my Xyron). And busted these out in no time. Pretty cute, I must say. Now just have to cut out some matching Barbie heads for the goodie bags and print out the Barbie Bingo cards I made. I’m no Martha Stewart, but I do enjoy adding some custom touches to my little ones’ birthdays. (Probably because I’m not so useful in the baking department.)

Speaking of baking, Emily got to have pineapple angel food cake last night for her real birthday, PLUS a “real” birthday cake at her party this weekend. Plus she opened gifts last night and will do so again this weekend. Two parties? That’s my kind of birthday.

PS – Dan, honey, can you believe it? I actually remembered all the steps from your little tutorial the other night on scaling pics and adding them to the blog! Woohoo!

I love your invitation idea. But I am having a hard time trying to find a barbie cutout, do you know where I could find one or buy?

Glad you like it.  I did a web search for “Barbie SVG file” and found another blog where someone had taken the time to create the files so I didn’t have to.  If you have a Cricut and Sure Cuts a Lot software, this is the way to do it.  Of course, you could create your own SVG also.  If you do not have a Cricut and SCAL, you are probably out of luck as my local scrapbooking store told me that Barbie-licensed scrapbooking items are rare if not impossible to find.  The other option would be to find an image online and print it out.
