Fashionistas
So perhaps it is all those rerun episodes of Project Runway I have been watching during Julia’s naptimes while on leave. Or maybe it is just good old fashioned retail therapy. But lately, I have kind of been on a shopping kick. I got a new purse (in bright blue-green leather, thank you very much.) And new shoes (brown wedges with a 3 inch cork heel). And a bunch of new summer clothes for work (which I will be returning to next week, wow how time flies). It is going to be oh so hard leaving Julia to go back to work…and I’m sure our attachment will take a major hit when she is seeing caregivers for more hours in each day than she is seeing us. But there is a little part of me that is looking forward to dressing up for work each day again. I have always considered myself a better mother when I am working. I am able to show my daughters that they can have a career AND a family. And while this may sound weird, my time at work makes me cherish my time with my kids all the more, because it is so precious. It is just hard to believe that my maternity leave is nearly over. But at least I will be going back to work in style.
It appears I am not the only fashionista in the family. We were developing quite a shoe mess by the back door. We’re talking overflowing-off-the-shoerack-creating-a-giant-trip-hazard-mess. I told Emily she could keep three pairs of shoes by the back door and the rest had to go up to her closet. She set about choosing the pairs to stay and then was collecting the others. I casually asked her how many pairs she had back there. She responded, “Twelve.” I said, “No, how many pairs, not how many shoes.” And she said, “Yeah, 12 pairs.” I couldn’t believe it so I went back to look and sure enough, she had sorted the shoes and she really DID have TWELVE PAIRS of shoes by the back door. I didn’t even realize she HAD that many shoes. The worst part? In the past week I have bought her 2 pairs (and yes, those were included in the ridiculous pile by the back door.) But hey, a girl needs options, right?
