Happy Half-Birthday Julia!
Stuck in between Father’s Day and the Summer Solstice preceding it, and our tenth wedding anniversary following it, today was a day that could easily have passed by unnoticed. But Julia has had so many milestones without us, I am intent on making sure we capture the milestones we do have. And so tonight, after dinner, we went out for ice cream to celebrate Julia’s half birthday.

Our original plan was to get mini-cupcakes at the local gourmet cupcake shop, but they were closed when we got there, so we quickly moved to plan B and ran down the street to McDonald’s for a bit of soft serve (it was getting late and all the really yummy ice cream places would have been more of a drive.) A pretty simple celebration – a quick rendition of “Happy Half-Birthday To You” and $1.00 ice cream sundaes. But as you can see, Julia enjoyed every minute of it. And we enjoyed honoring our youngest daughter on this day. It is so amazing to me that six months ago, she was celebrating her first birthday halfway across the world and we were preparing for Christmas and wondering when we would get to meet her. And now our precious Julia is 1 1/2 and has been home for three months. Wow.
