Emily Sweetums, yesterday was your one week birthday.
I can’t believe how fast the time is going by and how you are changing day by day. We still have no idea what your sleep pattern is like and I am sure that we won’t for a while or that as soon as we figure it out it will change. This morning mommy told me that you slept for two solid hours… ah, I was asleep the whole time and rather drowsy when she was giving me the news. She is doing such a great job with you and the three of us make a great team. I was back at work yesterday for a full day but the nice part is that I am right down the hallway and can help out at the drop of a hat.
I Love You so much and I can’t tell you how much you mean to Erin and myself. We are praying for you and with you now. I was reading you stories from your baby bible the other day and you seemed to really enjoy the stories.

So begins the next portion of the journey Little E. After your mommies check up today we headed home and I finished up with work. After work we headed out with Nuba what has become our standard short walk after work to keep mommy moving and to see if we could help move along some progress. Congratulations she is having contractions the whole time we were on the walk and they were about five minutes apart. After the walk he headed out for a little dinner and kept seeing the contractions. Heading home from dinner we decided it was time to call the doctors and see what they had to say. They had us come on into the hospital. So around 9:20 p.m. on April 11, 2005 we headed left the house and headed over to the hospital. On our way we where telling ourselves that they would be sending us home so that we would be pleasantly surprised if we stayed… well it turned out that we are staying. We are in room 11 which turns out to be the same room that our friend Tracey was in when she gave birth to Shelby. Erin is being taken care of by a wonderful nurse Ann and a great resident Jill.
Mommies contractions are still about five minutes apart and your heart rate is ranging from 150 to 180 beats per minute… not to mention that you are moving around a lot. At last check Erin was 90% effaced and 1 cm dilated. It is currently 11:45 p.m. and we are both trying to write some notes to remember the moments and then off to dream land to try to get some sleep before the big day tomorrow… that is right tomorrow is your birthday!!!
I am so excited to finally meet you tomorrow and to finally get to hold you. I Love You so much Little E and I am so proud of Erin for all that she has done so far and all that she will be doing tomorrow. She is the greatest mother that I could have ever dreamed of for you, she is a very special lady and I know that God designed her just for me and you.
I Love You Little E.

I know that I don’t have a whole lot of room to talk here since I am not the one carrying the baby but waiting is tough. The doctors had set the due date for Little E at April 4th… that was yesterday. Erin and I originally thought the due date was going to be April 9th but have been tracking to the 4th. Now that it has pasted we are getting so anxious. Erin is still physically all right but both of our hearts just want to meet this little one.
I have found myself in the same place as many others by adding undue stress to Erin and I know I should not be. Thing that she seems tired of hearing:
Now I admit it, I have not asked those questions directly but I have said some things that convey the same message so I am attempting to stop that for her sanity and peace of mind.
Little E, your mommy and daddy can not wait to meet you. We are so looking forward to holding you and hearing you cry. We love you.

Well Little E here is a picture of the cradle that your grandpa Lacher made for you and any of your brothers or sisters to come in the future. Both of your grandpas are craftsman so I am sure that they will both make you wonderful things over the years.

Well Little E we are waiting for you with great anticipation. There are a lot of people of asking about you and mommy and I are ready for you to come… we will just hold on until you are ready. It is interesting to look at dates and think about when you will be here and if you will come on one of the days that all ready has something special tied to it… I am hoping that you will hit your own day so that it is only a day for you. Looking at the next few weeks here is what we have: (in relation to you)
You come on when you are ready, I just thought you would like to know what dates you are coming around. I am thinking April 4th would be a great day but we shall see.
Love you Little E.

Today is Easter. This is the day that we celebrate the Jesus conquered death and the grave. The Father called out to His one and only Son, arise my love. The sins of this world were poured out onto Jesus so that our sins can be forgiven.
Well Little E you have no idea how many people are waiting to meet you! There are so many excited friends and family… not to mention most of all your mommy and me. Everyone at church telling your mommy how beautiful she looks (which she does) and are asking when you are due. Well according to the due date you are still a week away… we shall see. We know that you are coming when the Lord has planned. We are so excited to meet you.

Well Little E you have had three showers now and they have all been very fun for your mommy. The ladies at work through her one, there was a small suprise one by one of her teams, and then Jen and Traci had one for you and mommy this weekend. Your grandma Macy come into town for this last one. I was so happy that Erin could have her mommy here to share in this time and experience.
While they were all at the shower Dave and I headed out for a tasty lunch and some off roading… well we did not find the trail Dave wanted to drive on but he still got his Jeep rather dirty. We all just want to extend a huge thank you to everyone that was there and those that could not be, thank you so much for the gifts for Little E. Little E, we now feel like we are supplied enough to bring you home. And Little E want to extend a huge thanks to all of the ladies that held the showers for Erin and you, you are all so precious to us.
Erin and her mom did a great deal this weekend to finish up the nursery for you. All of the cloths and blankets are washed up. All the little toys are put away. We have diapers for you and the creams to keep your little bottom healthy. We have pictures and they will be coming soon…
I guess that any day now little one we will be welcoming you into the world. Your mommy is starting the 37th week of her pregnancy toady. The doctors have told us that if labor start now they won’t do anything to stop it but just let it happen. Tonight we are have another pre-birth class, we will have a chance to tour the maternity floor tonight. The setup here is very nice from what I have seen in the past. It is a far different place from the stable and manger in which your Savior was born in.
Alright Little E, I should get to work today. I am so excited that we will finally get to meet you soon! I Love You!

Warning: May not be appropriate for all readers, subject matter includes tales of blood and stitches.
Dumb mistake! That is all that I can say for myself on this one. I was working on building a cornice for the window in the nursery when I had my left hand in the wrong place at the wrong time. The screws for the L brackets were to long for the ½ inch plywood to they stuck through and I was just going to use the hack saw to knock off the extra that stuck through the wood… well I went through the screw end and right into the top of my thumb. After taking a few minutes to compose myself and stop the bleeding I thought that I would be fine and went back to work. Side note, my wife wanted to head into urgent care right away… she turns out to be right in the end. So I finished assembly of the cornice and then we started working on wrapping the wood with the fabric. As we were getting ready to put in the last staple to secure the fabric the rubber glove that I had on over the wound and bandage started fill with some blood. Well after reassessing the wound I decided that she was right and off to urgent care. Three stitches and a tetanus shot later I am all fixed up… well that and 14 days for the wound to heal before the stitches come out. The cornice looks awesome and it really finishes off the decoration to the nursery so it was worth it.
Pictures of the completed nursery to come.

Well I am on my flight to California Little E and I am going to miss being present for the 34 week of your mommies pregnancy. I am so glad that I have been able to be right by her side as much as I can be. We went to the first of five pre-birth classes last night and started to learn more about what the end of this pregnancy is going to be like. We have two great teachers that will be informing us and helping to answer all of our questions, so thanks in advance to Becky and Nicole. The best part is if we forget to ask anything or don’t feel like we received a full answer we can always ask Dave and Jen.
Jen is waiting for you to get there and grow up a little so that Olivia will have another play mate. Secretly, well not so secretly, Jen is hoping that you are a little girl so that Oliva will have another little girl playmate along with Shelby. Three little girls or two little girls and a little boy… either way I know that that the three of you are going to have a great time growing up together and playing for hours on end.
I think the thing that I am going to miss the most about this week beside being with you and your mommy is the time each night when I lay down with your mommy and feel you kicking away, it is such a great time.
Love you Little E.
